Rebecca Gayheart isn’t one to shy away from the truth, and that even applies to cosmetic work she underwent this year.
While appearing as a guest on the Monday, November 17, episode of Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen’s “Broad Ideas” podcast, Gayheart, 54, got candid about undergoing a few procedures on her face with Dr. Jason Diamond in Beverly Hills.
“I’m very open about it because I feel that we have to be … it’s like, why are we trying to pretend like we aren’t aging?” Gayheart explained.
The Urban Legend actress added that she believes “we just have to say it and normalize” undergoing plastic surgery. “I’ve had a rough couple of years, and I was starting to — the gravity really hit, like, two years ago, [at] 52. I was like, ‘Wow, this is bad,’” she continued.
“So I had one eye that was just saggy, and in photos it looked closed,” Gayheart said. “One looked open, one looked closed. And I was like, ‘I hate this,’ and it was bothering me. And Jason, of course, is like, ‘Yeah, you need to get that fixed … and while you’re at it, you need to do this, this, this, and this’, so I did it.”
Gayheart underwent the procedures in July and specified that she underwent at least two. “If they don’t touch anything else, it’s just, like, a neck pull,” she explained while demonstrating how the skin was pulled.
The recovery was a little intense, she admitted, because “I’d never had any surgery, so it was my first one. And for me, it was a little intense just because I’d never done any surgery of any kind. But I will say, Jason is just, he’s the guy who won’t make you look crazy.”
Diamond is a surgeon who has “a very soft touch” and “wants everyone to just look like themselves, but better,” Gayheart continued. “He only does faces — he’s a facial plastic surgeon. He doesn’t do you boobs or your hips or your butt or your whatever, or Mommy makeovers or any of that kind of stuff. He does your face, so he is never focused on that.”
The only part of the experience that was tricky for Gayheart was explaining why she was voluntarily undergoing surgery to her daughters. (Gayheart shares Georgia and Billie with Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane.)

“The tricky part was my daughters,” she admitted. “So, you know, obviously I was honest without divulging everything, but I was home recovering. So they saw, and they went through it with me and I just explained to them. I was like, ‘Listen, this is possibly going to make me feel better about myself. And I think that’s okay’. And I was like, ‘I wouldn’t do anything that I thought was dangerous or egregious. You know, this is something that’s going to make me feel better’. And my youngest gave me a hard time. My oldest did not. But I think my youngest daughter was just nervous.”
Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Gayheart reflected on part of what has made the last few years so tough. Dane, 53, announced he was diagnosed with ALS in April 2025, a month after Gayheart withdrew the divorce petition she filed in 2018. The pair have been separated for 8 years, and their daughters live with Gayheart full time.
She explained that she’s teaching their daughters “we show up for people no matter what” even when the situation is complicated. “He is our family. He is your father,” Gayheart said. “We show up, and we try to do it with some dignity and some grace and just get through it.”
“We’ve been separated for eight years. The kids live with me 100 percent of the time. There’s been lots of just stuff, other stuff,” she explained. “I try to stay optimistic, though, about it all. I’m trying to learn from it and [be a] role model for them [for] how to go through something like this, which is really hard.”
