The Family Plan 2 is already receiving rave reviews from fans of the Christmas action comedy, but can they look forward to a third film in the future?
“That’s for the audience to decide!” director Simon Cellan Jones exclusively told Us Weekly. “Let’s wait and see how this one does. But we do have a few ideas for Family Plan 3!”
While a third film has yet to be officially announced, there’s so much to unpack in the second movie. In an exclusive clip from The Family Plan 2 shared with Us, Dan Morgan (Mark Wahlberg) has an intense face-off with Finn Clarke (Kit Harington), who makes a shocking revelation about their unexpected family ties. Finn holds Dan at gunpoint in a vault and presents him with a family photo with a rich history, revealing that they are actually brothers.
“The vault scene was really intense,” Cellan Jones, 62, teased to Us. “It was Mark and Kit’s first scene together, and they were really excited to dig into it. They didn’t need me to tell them how pivotal the scene was. There was a real feeling of high stakes throughout the whole day.”
The Family Plan 2 continues the story of the Morgans, led by Dan, who runs a security firm, and his wife, Jessica (Michelle Monaghan), as they embark on a family vacation to Europe with their kids. Things do not go according to plan as they “battle, bicker and bond their way through a series of bank heists, holiday hijinks and car chases amid scenic European terrain.”

The sequel follows 2023’s The Family Plan, which uncovered Dan’s background as a former government assassin. For Cellan Jones, continuing the Morgans’ story in the equally thrilling second movie was a rewarding experience.
“We were so happy to be back,” the filmmaker said. “We had a great time on the first movie and the second time around we got back into our rhythm really quickly. And we were in London and Paris – what’s not to like!”

Similarly for Wahlberg, 54, and Monaghan, 49, reuniting for the sequel, which also stars Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby, Peter Lindsey, Theodore Lindsey and Reda Elazouar, was delightful.
“When it comes to chemistry, you either possess it or you don’t, but I have a great fondness for Michelle,” Wahlberg told Zoom TV Digital on November 22. “Working with her is a joy. She brings such energy, enthusiasm and gratitude for the chance to make films and work daily. She truly is a bright presence that lifts everyone’s spirits and fosters a positive, thankful atmosphere. I genuinely enjoy collaborating with her.”
Monaghan echoed her costar’s sentiments, telling the outlet, “We both have a deep appreciation for our careers and partnerships. This cast is truly well-selected. Mark and I have collaborated before, so we were eager to work together again. The kids are fantastic.”
“I believe we have a great family dynamic that resonates with all families, and with The Family Plan 2, the inclusion of Kit Harington and Reda Elazouar has enriched what the family represents, the overall tone and their chemistry,” she added. “I feel incredibly fortunate that we all mesh so well.”
The Family Plan 2 is streaming now on Apple TV.
