Lennox Lewis admits there is one heavyweight who stands above him as the best ever

When discussing the greatest heavyweights of all time, Lennox Lewis is someone who is often mentioned by boxing fans.

After claiming a gold medal at the 1998 Olympics in Seoul, Lewis joined the paid ranks and had claimed world honours in just over 20 professional fights.

While he may have had to deal with some setbacks, suffering stoppage defeats to Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman over the years, Lewis was able to avenge both of those losses on his way to overcoming every man he had ever faced.

That included victories against fighters such as Mike Tyson, Vitali Klitschko and Evander Holyfield, with the triumph over the latter seeing Lewis become undisputed heavyweight champion.

Despite those accolades, Lewis feels there is one heavyweight legend that is even better than him, after revealing on social media who he deems to be the greatest of all time – Muhammad Ali.

“Ali.”

Ali’s achievements speak for themselves, and just like Lewis, he began his career by winning a gold medal at the 1960 Olympics in Rome.

It didn’t take Ali long to prove exactly why he is regularly mentioned as being the best ever, becoming world heavyweight champion in his 20th professional fight at the age of 22 with a victory over Sonny Liston.

Further victories followed for Ali in some fights that are deemed as being the most memorable of all time, including the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ against George Foreman, and the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ against Joe Frazier.

His final record stood at 56 wins from 61 fights, becoming a three-time world heavyweight champion, with his ability inside the ring helping to show exactly why he was known as ‘The Greatest.’
