Hulk Hogan and his son, Nick, shared an indelible memory just months before the iconic pro wrestler’s death.
When Nick, 35, got married to his wife, Tana Lea, in January, Hulk played a pivotal role in the proceedings.
“My dad was actually my best man at my wedding,” Nick exclusively told Us Weekly at SLAM Sports Bar in New York City on Monday, August 11, what would have been Hulk’s 72nd birthday. “We’re so lucky that the timing of that worked out, and I was able to have my father there for me on that special day.”
Nick credited his wife for being his “absolute rock” since Hulk died on July 24.
“She’s really helped me remember all those times where my dad and I would talk,” Nick explained. “Reminds me of the reasons why we had such a close bond and helped to keep me focused in these moments where I’ll possibly fall apart. When I’m sad or devastated even, she’s really been there for me to lean on, and helped keep me focused on honoring him and moving forward the way that he would have wanted me to.”
In addition to being there on the most memorable days of his life, Nick boasted about his late father’s ability to support him through life’s difficult moments.
“The one thing my dad always told me was that no matter how hard things get, you have to keep moving forward,” Nick said. “You can’t stop, you can’t slow down and you can’t lose momentum.”
Nick has made a vow to keep his father’s memory alive however he can, urging pro wrestling fans to take his notorious messages and catchphrases to heart.
“What I want most for fans to remember about my dad was that iconic spirit and that fight that he had,” Nick said. “His iconic words of ‘Train, say your prayers and eat your vitamins.’ And all those special moments that he had, inspiring people around the world.”
Nick was on hand Monday to help unveil a banner honoring his father outside of the wrestling-themed bar, which is set to open soon outside Madison Square Garden and was one of Hulk’s final business ventures before his death.
“It just feels so special,” Nick said of the occasion. “When I think about being here, I’m honored and really blessed to be able to continue his legacy here in New York and follow through with his plans for Slam Sports Bar. We were just here a few months ago, and he was looking out the windows at Madison Square Garden. You could see that rush of memories coming back to him. He was so in love with this.”
SLAM Sports Bar is scheduled to open this fall.
