Gayle King Reacts to Report She’s Leaving CBS Mornings After 13 Years

Gayle King has addressed speculation about her reported exit from CBS Mornings.

All I can say is this: From what I’m being told inside this building … that they want me here, [and] they like the job I’m doing,” King, 70, told TMZ on Friday, October 31. “I like the job I’m doing. I like the job and the people that I work with, so I don’t know what to tell you.”

She added, “What I’m hearing in the building is not what I’m hearing in the press, and what I’m not gonna do is negotiate in the media. Not doing that.”

King further stressed that she has “no idea” what will happen with her eventual contract negotiations.

Gayle King is hitting back at critics of the recent all-women Blue Origin spaceflight. “I’ve certainly read some of the things online coming from people that I know, that I like, that I consider friends,” the CBS Mornings host, 70, told Entertainment Tonight in an interview published on Tuesday, April 15, just 24 hours after […]

“All I know is I am here and glad to be here,” she concluded.

Variety reported on Thursday, October 30, that King was likely to depart CBS Mornings in 2026 amid the network’s structural overhaul and its merger with Skydance Media.

A spokesperson for CBS later responded to the rumors in a statement shared with Us Weekly.

“There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” the statement read. “She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”

King has anchored CBS Mornings since 2012.

“My dad used to always make us watch the news,” King recalled of working in media during a 2024 appearance on “The Pivot” podcast. “I would say to him, ‘God, Daddy, the news is so boring. Why do we have to watch the news?’ He said, ‘Because it’s always important to know what’s going on in the world.’ I guess on some level that stuck.”

During an interview with SiriusXM podcast host Alex Cooper, Gayle King proved she’s no stranger to the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. While talking with CBS News, Cooper, who King called a “badass,” discussed her latest venture with SiriusXM and her Unwell Network. She was also asked about her favorite sex position. During the February 11 […]

King also didn’t appear to let the rumors of a potential TV shakeup up faze her appearance on Friday’s broadcast, where she shut down other viral speculation that she secretly got married.

“Been getting a lot of texts, a lot of messages, stories online that I got engaged,” she said during the morning show. “Take a look at me with a big ring on my finger. There’s a lucky man — I have no idea who he is. These AI-generated images have been making their way across the internet. I’m here to say exclusively on CBS Mornings, I’m not married, not even engaged.”

King had been the subject of AI-generated wedding photos earlier this week, in which she appeared to pose with a man and wore a bridal gown.

“Where is he? I would like to see you, sir! Show yourself,” she joked of the viral photos and the fictitious man, adding that any real eligible singles “still have a shot” to win her heart.

King’s cohost Nate Burleson subsequently clarified her dating status for anyone still confused.

“For all you guys watching, go ahead and shoot your shot,” he quipped. “She’s still single.”

King was previously married to William Bumpus from 1982 to 1993, and they welcomed two children.

“They were 4 and 5 at the time,” King recalled of her divorce on “The Pivot” podcast episode. “I have never been an, ‘Oh, woe is me, person.’ I say you can have a brief period of bereavement when bad stuff happens but then you have to carry on. Whenever stuff happens and doesn’t go my way, I just figure out how I can fix it now.”
