Finola Hughes is looking back fondly on her time with longtime TV husband Tristan Rogers, who died of lung cancer Friday, August 15, at age 79.
The actress, 65, penned a sweet tribute to Rogers via Instagram on Sunday, August 17.
“Wish I could play one more scene with you, my friend. Tris sauntered into my life on that first day to rehearse. Cropped hair & steel blue eyes, I thought ‘damn, I’m gonna be working with Steve McQueen!’” she began.
Hughes continued, “From day one he called me ‘kid’ or ‘Finny’ and he made me laugh. An effortless actor, living on screen, he taught me so much. Serious about his work, but always a rebel. His own man, navigating the system, he protected me, protected Kimberly, his character, his friends. God, he was a good one. Silly, funny, kind, serious. I am heartbroken for his awesome wife Teresa, his children Sara Jane & Cale. His family made him so happy and he adored talking about them. Love you Trissy.”
Rogers shared news of his lung cancer diagnosis one month before his death. “Beloved Emmy-winning actor Tristan Rogers, best known for his role as Robert Scorpio on the daytime drama, General Hospital, is sharing with fans that he has been diagnosed with cancer,” a July 17 press release read.
The statement also said, “While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family. As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding.”

The press release did not state the type of cancer Rogers was diagnosed with at the time (the actor’s longtime manager, Meryl Soodak, later confirmed the type of cancer on August 15), and the release also included a direct statement from the actor and his family.
“Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years,” the statement concluded. “This support means more to him now than ever. Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family.”
Rogers signed on to play D.A. Robert Scorpio on the long-running soap in 1980. He most recently played the character again in November 2024.
His career also included several stints as Colin on The Young and the Restless from 2010-2012, 2014-2017 and 2019. He also played Hunter on The Bold and the Beautiful in 1997.
