‘All’s Fair’ Star Judith Light Reacts to Season 2 Renewal

Judith Light is weighing in on All’s Fair after the Hulu series was renewed for a second season.

The actress, who starred as Sheila Baskin in the legal drama, told Us Weekly exclusively that her character will not be making an appearance in the upcoming season, but she is thrilled about the show’s renewal.

“I was delighted for [the cast],” Light, 76, said at TheWrap Power Women Summit on Tuesday, December 2. “I went in there as a guest star. I’m not part of that second season, but for the gals who I adore — like Niecy Nash [Betts] and Naomi Watts and Kim [Kardashian] and Glenn [Close] and Sarah [Paulson] and the team, and Ryan [Murphy] — [I] just love. Really, I’m so happy for them.”

Hulu is investing in a second season of Kim Kardashian‘s All’s Fair despite an onslaught of negative reviews in the wake of the show’s release. The streaming service announced the renewal on Monday, November 24, referring to Ryan Murphy‘s legal drama as “the biggest Hulu original scripted series premiere in 3 years,” according to the […]

All’s Fair received overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics when it premiered in November, but according to Hulu, it was the platform’s biggest scripted series debut in three years with 3.2 million views. The series follows Allura (Kardashian), a successful divorce lawyer who co-owns an all-female law firm in Los Angeles. Light appeared in two episodes as one of the firm’s most vibrant and interesting clients in season one.

The actress discussed her performance on the show during the summit, telling the audience that she worked alongside Murphy, 60, and the series’ costume designer, Lou Eyrich, to bring the character to life.

“I never create a character alone,” Light said while appearing on the New Power Women: On Screen and in the Wild panel. “I am always creating with my fellow actors. I’m also creating [with the designers and crew]. It’s like two people, together, make a baby. Two people, together, make the character. A lot of that stuff on All’s Fair really comes down [to] — Ryan Murphy is a visionary. A lot of that stuff comes down to him, but it’s Lou Eyrich who is the costume designer.”

Light explained that it is “really, really daunting” to dress “a lot of different women” for the series, which received recognition for its luxury fashion and designer looks. The costumes helped Light get into character, but the actress said it’s her shoes that made “a huge, huge difference.” She credits Eyrich for leading the way on set.

“How [Eyrich] manages to do it with all of those shows, and oversee everything, is really extraordinary,” Light added. “There’s real thought [that goes into the series’ costume design].”

Light’s costar Kardashian, 45, previously opened up about filming the legal drama, acknowledging on her reality series The Kardashians that it was not “guaranteed” that All’s Fair would be “a hit.”

“You put your heart and soul and your time into something and it’s like, ‘What if it doesn’t hit?’ Then what was this for?” she questioned in a November episode. “Obviously with everything in life, you got to take risks to get there, but I have taken all the risks.”

Kardashian touched on fans’ reaction to the news that she would be starring in a scripted series after spending decades on reality TV, revealing that she felt “more pressure” playing Allura than she did appearing on The Kardashians.

“There’s definitely a judging meter of like, ‘You can act and you are a bad actress,’” Kardashian explained. “Being on a reality show, you’re just living your life. … To get people to like a character is probably easier than to get people to like you for who you are.”

All’s Fair is currently streaming on Hulu.
