Valerie Bertinelli Teases Surprise Blonde Transformation

Valerie Bertinelli is testing the old adage that blondes really do have more fun.

Bertinelli, 65, took to Instagram on Monday, November 10, to unveil a new hairdo, writing, “New hair, who dis?”

She clarified in the caption that it is just “a wig” and she didn’t actually change her hair color — yet. Bertinelli credited celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton — known for his work with Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez — for helping bring the change to life.

Before testing out the lighter hue, Bertinelli opened up about dealing with gray hair.

“PSA about filters and gray roots,” she shared via Instagram in 2024. “I’m filming with no filter today because some of y’all get really bent out of shape when I choose to use a filter, which I’ve told you about.”

Bertinelli broke down her process, saying, “Sometimes I use filter, and sometimes I don’t. Most of the time, I do use filter because this is me with no makeup, and this is no filter.”

After addressing a specific comment from fans accusing her of wearing a wig, Bertinelli showed off her natural hair.

“Can you get me a wig without flipping gray roots then, please, because I’m tired of getting my roots done every two weeks,” she said. “Thank goodness 99.9 percent of you are really kind, sweet people and don’t give a flying flip whether I have roots or I put a filter on. But some of y’all need to chill out, OK? I mean seriously.”

Bertinelli is no stranger to using her platform to candidly discuss her life. Earlier this year, she revealed that a return to acting led to some unexpected anxiety.

“It’s an amazing script written by an amazing writer, and the cast is beyond my wildest dreams,” Bertinelli shared via Instagram in June. “[I will have] a beautiful role where I must break down all my barriers, shut out the outside noise and be openly vulnerable. It’s the only way to let the real, authentic emotions flow.”

Bertinelli, who previously starred in One Day at a Time and Hot in Cleveland, acknowledged the nerves that came with taking on a new scripted role.

“I knew I was feeling a little fear. It’s been a while. I haven’t acted in a single-camera for at least 4 years? But, I didn’t realize how really terrified I was until I looked at these selfies that I took to send to production,” she noted. “I thought I was doing a pretty decent job of walking and talking through the fear and anxiety, but my eyes never ever lie. 😅 You can see the fear and doubt in them.”

Despite her concerns, Bertinelli remained positive about the opportunity.

“I’ve been doing this for over 50 years, (it’s like riding a bike, right?), but I just love this script so much and I wanna do it justice. There’s always that thought that I’m gonna be the one that f***s up the whole project, right?” she added. “So, feel the fear and do it anyway. Transfer the fear and anxiety into joy and excitement. They’re the same sort of feelings, just on a different spectrum. Gah! Verbal vomiting…🤪 Anyway, these are my thoughts on a manic Monday. 😬How’s your Monday going?”
